Respected throughout the music world as one of the great American cellists, Stephen Geber has recently completed thirty years as Principal Cellist of The Cleveland Orchestra. His tenure at Cleveland followed eight years as cellist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Born in Los Angeles and graduated from Eastman School of Music, Mr. Geber's principal teachers were Gabor Rejto, Stephen Deak, Ronald Leonard, and Zara Nelsova. As a soloist, he has appeared with many of the major American and European orchestras and as a chamber player with The Cleveland Orchestra String Quartet, the Emerson String Quartet, the American String Quartet, and the Cavani String Quartet. His numerous recordings include the Brahms Piano Quintet with Vladimir Ashkenazy. As a teacher, Mr. Geber serves as chair of the Cello Department of The Cleveland Institute of Music and also is on the faculties of Kent/Blossom Festival School, the Encore School for Strings, the New World Symphony, and the Round Top, Texas International Festival. He has taught master classes throughout the world. |
