Make Music with fellow musicians in a fun, inspiring, Big Band workshop!

Big band players gather to participate in rehearsals and music classes under the guidance of a seasoned professional conductor and teacher, Craig Buhler. Between classes, enjoy informal jam sessions, and teh serene and inspiring beauty of Hidden Valley Institute in Carmel Valley, nestled amongst oak and buckeye hillsides. The week will be filled with inspiring musical sessions that culminate in putting on a live performance. Rehearsals, repertoire, and approach will be tailored to participant skills and interests with selections ranging from Big Band classics to more contemporary and jazz inspired compositions.

This program is designed for intermediate to advanced players in the following instruments: saxophone, trumpets (flugelhorn double optional), trombone, clarinet, guitar, bass viol (or bass guitar), drum set, percussion, piano, and vocalist. The Hidden Valley campus features a beautiful nine-foot Steinway piano.

Registration: Submit your application through the Hidden Valley website, there is a $10.00 processing fee for the application. Registration is closed for 2021 workshop.

In the comments section of your application, please include:

1) What instrument you play and if you are a new applicant, please include a brief background of your experience and music level
2) Your preferred housing option
3) Roommate name if applicable

Once your application is accepted, you will receive an acceptance email confirming your housing option and with a deposit to payment link.

Covid-19 Vaccination:  All attendees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and must show proof of vaccination two weeks before the start of the program. Email a picture of your vaccination card to info@hiddenvalleymusic.org.

For safety purposes, please be aware that these requirements that you MUST adhere to in order to join and participate.

By requiring vaccination and continuing to practice other virus prevention measures, we can best provide the quality of instruction, group learning, and camraderie that are at the heart of Hidden Valley's programs.

All Hidden Valley staff and faculty are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Housing: All housing will be on the Hidden Valley campus in the Waddell Center and newly constructed Lubow Lodge. See HERE for housing descriptions. Some single rooms available on a first come basis. Single rooms are not secured until deposit is received. For double rooms, we offer roommate matching in the Waddell Center. For the Lubow Lodge, you must sign-up for the program with a roommate. A commuter option is available for participants who wish to arrange their own housing accommodations or live locally.

Non-Participant Spouse: Non-musician spouses are welcome to attend and must submit their own applicaiton through the Hidden Valley website.

Program and Housing Cost: Program Cost is per person and all inclusive: meals, housing, and tuition.

Waddell Center Double Room: $825

Waddell Center Single Room: $1,100

Lubow Lodge Double Room: $1,100

Lubow Lodge Single Room: $1,400

Commuter = $575 (no housing; only meals and tution)

Non-participant Spouse: subtract $250.00

A non-refundable deposit of $300.00 is due upon acceptance to hold your space in the program. The balance is due 4 weeks before the start of the program.
