In 1983 Hidden Valley joined the educational centers worldwide which were offering Elderhostel, now called Road Scholar programs. Within four years Hidden Valley became one of the 75 supersites in America presenting at least 40 Road Scholar weeks per year. Hidden Valley draws on its deep community connections and vast network of musicians & specialists to provide unique educational programs highlighting musical events, performance opportunities, and local cultural and natural history treasures. Our programs include the following:

Magical Monterey: From iconic shorelines to the homeland of John Steinbeck, from world-renowned aquarium to the "crown jewel" of California state parks, come see all that's amzing in historic Monterey.

Birding at Monterey Bay: Discover birding at its best in the Monterey Bay region. Learn about local ecology and habitats from experts while seeking waterfowl, waders, shorebirds, songbirds, seabirds, and more.                   

Bridge at Hidden Valley: Learn to evaluate your hand properly, master bidding concentions and acquire new techniques from experts as you immerse yourself in bridge at Hidden Valley.         

Recorder/Early Music Workshop: Heighten your recorder, viola da gamba, or reeds talents in large and small ensembles with world-class instructors - and end your week with a concert in bucolic Carmel Valley!

Monterey Jazz Festival: Join all the cool cats at the Monterey Jazz Festival where you'll hear world-class performances, engaging lectures and panel discussions in historic settings.

Monterey's Jazz Bash by the Bay: Immerse yourself in the culture and history of jazz at Monterey's Jazz Bash by the Bay. Attend as a patron with seating privileges at performances and enjoy the special Patron's Lunch. Please note: This Road Scholar program is cancelled for 2025.
