Robert Walters' English Horn Master Class opens with dinner at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19th, and closes with breakfast on Saturday, June 25th.
Robert Walters has been the solo english hornist for The Cleveland Orchestra since 2004. Prior to coming to Cleveland, Mr. Walters was the solo english horn player of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (2000-04), and with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1997-2000). He performed and recorded with the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1990 to 1996 and was active as a freelance musician in New York City. A fourth-generation college music professor, Robert Walters has taught at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music since 2006, and was appointed professor of oboe and english horn in 2010. Mr. Walters has also appeared as guest soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Beijing Radio Symphony, Qingdau Symphony Orchestra, New York Chamber Soloists, Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony, and the Curtis Symphony Orchestra. In June 2013, he performed Bach's Concerto in A major, BWV1055, for oboe d'amore on the opening concert of the International Double Reed Society Conference in Redlands, California.
Robert Walters spent five summers at the Marlboro Music Festival and has toured as a member of Musicians from Marlboro. He has appeared at the Banff, St. Bart's, Bard, Caramoor, Grand Teton, and Spoleto festivals. He has served as an artist faculty member of the Aspen Music Festival and School and with the Colorado College Summer Music Festival.
A native of Los Angeles and raised in Nebraska, Mr. Walters is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and holds a master of fine arts degree in poetry from Columbia University. He studied with Richard Woodhams (principal oboe of the Philadelphia Orchestra) and the late John Mack (former principal oboe of The Cleveland Orchestra).
All new participant applications should be supported by 2 letters of recommendation; in some cases audition tapes or CDs will be requested. All applications will be processed on receipt and after application fee is received. Applicants will be notified by mail. A non-refundable payment of $300.00 is due upon acceptance. Balance is due 10 days before the opening date of class.

Each week of master class includes a concert, open to the public, featuring the master teacher performing a wide array of solo repertoire. On Friday, June 24th, 7:30 pm Mr. Walters and Judith LeClair presents an evening of English Horn and Bassoon. Those who are not in the master class may purchase tickets to this performance HERE.
