Teacher Biographies
With a career spanning over four decades, jazz flutist Ali Ryerson consistently ranks among the top jazz flutists in the Downbeat Jazz Poll and has been honored as Jazz Flutist of the Year nominee by the Jazz Journalists Association. Ms. Ryerson has released close to 20 albums on major jazz labels and has toured the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Africa performing in jazz festivals and concert halls, including the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. In addition to her performing schedule, Ms. Ryerson has served as the Jazz Chair for the National Flute Association and conducts jazz flute seminars throughout the county and abroad. A Gemeinhardt Artist with an Autograph Series of flutes she helped design, Ali's 2013 CD release, Game Changer – The Ali Ryerson Jazz Flute Big Band (Capri Records), features guest soloist Hubert Laws. Keith Underwood received his Master's Degree from the Yale School of Music in 1976. He has appeared frequently with the New York Chamber Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, the Orpheus Ensemble and the Orchestra of St. Luke's. Renowned as a teacher, Mr. Underwood's students are flutists with America's major orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. On the faculty at the Mannes School of Music, Mr. Underwood also gives master classes at the Juilliard School, The Manhattan School of Music and the Eastman School of Music. Application Information
All new participant applications should be supported by 2 letters of recommendation; in some cases audition tapes or CDs will be requested. All applications will be processed on receipt and after application fee is received. Applicants will be notified by mail. A non-refundable payment of $300.00 is due upon acceptance. Balance is due 10 days before the opening date of class.
Please note in your application if you are also applying to Ali or Keith's individual Master Class.
Participants who are accepted to this program, and are also attending Ali or Keith's individual master class, will have their application fee ($35) deducted from this tuition payment.
