The Douvas Oboe Master Class opens with dinner at 6:00 p.m. on Friday June 8th, 2018 and closes with breakfast on Thursday, June 14th, 2018.
Elaine Douvas is an institution in the oboe world, having served more than thirty years as Principal Oboe of the Metropolitan Opera and Oboe Instructor at The Juilliard School, where she is also Chairman of the Woodwind Department. She also teaches at the Mannes College of Music, the Bard College Conservatory, and has given master classes and week-long seminars in the USA, Canada, England, and China. Her students hold positions in numerous orchestras and universities, and her three albums of demonstration and written commentary for Music Minus One are used across the country. One of her career highlights was the Strauss Oboe Concerto with the MET Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, James Levine conducting. Her CDs comprise a solo recital and Pleasure is the Law by her quartet of the same name for Boston Records, and Oboe Divas on the Oboe Classics label. Douvas trained at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Interlochen Arts Academy. Ms. Douvas began her career as principal oboe of the Atlanta Symphony at the age of 21.
All new participant applications should be supported by 2 letters of recommendation; in some cases audition tapes or CDs will be requested. All applications will be processed on receipt and after application fee is received. Applicants will be notified by mail. A non-refundable payment of $300.00 is due upon acceptance. Balance is due 10 days before the opening date of class.

Each master class includes a concert, open to the public, featuring the master teacher performing a wide array of repertoire highlighting their instrument. On Monday June 11, 2018 at 7:30 pm Ms. Douvas is joined by Christopher Gaudi, oboist with the San Francisco Symphony, to present an evening of solo and duo pieces for oboe. Those who are not in the master class may purchase tickets to this performance HERE.
