Many of the great musicians of our time have presented classes and performances at Hidden Valley. Our Masters' Festival Series continues the tradition this summer with six concerts featuring music for English Horn, Cello, Oboe, Bassoon, Flute, and Clarinet. These master musicians leave their symphony orchestras behind to bring you an intimate evening of music focused on solo & duo instruments as you've never heard them before.
Elaine Douvas has been principal oboe of the Metropolitan Opera since 1977 and oboe instructor at The Juilliard School for twenty-five years. She has also served as principal oboe of the Aspen Festival Orchestra and oboe instructor for the Aspen School of Music since 1997.
For this evening's performance Ms. Douvas is joined by Christopher Gaudi, oboist with the San Francisco Symphony, bassoonist Daniel MacNeill of the San Francisco Opera orchestra, and pianist Marc Shapiro. Their program features Variations on the theme "La ci darme la mano" from Mozart's Don Giovanni, Sonata for oboe and piano by William Alwyn,Terzetto, Op. 22 by Theodre Lalliet, and Concerto for Oboe, Trumpet, and Bassoon by Francesco Biscogli, and two pieces by Francisc Poulenc.
