Elaine Douvas presents a repertoire of oboe with Christopher Gaudi, oboe, Lindsey Harrison, obo, and Luis Ortiz, piano.
Elaine Douvas is an institution in the oboe world, having served more than thirty years as Principal Oboe of the Metropolitan Opera and Oboe Instructor at The Juilliard School, where she is also Chairman of the Woodwind Department. She also teaches at the Mannes College of Music, the Bard College Conservatory, and has given master classes and week-long seminars in the USA, Canada, England, and China. Her students hold positions in numerous orchestras and universities, and her three albums of demonstration and written commentary for Music Minus One are used across the country. One of her career highlights was the Strauss Oboe Concerto with the MET Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, James Levine conducting. Her CDs comprise a solo recital and Pleasure is the Law by her quartet of the same name for Boston Records, and Oboe Divas on the Oboe Classics label. Douvas trained at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Interlochen Arts Academy. Ms. Douvas began her career as principal oboe of the Atlanta Symphony at the age of 21.
Since 2001, Christopher Gaudi has had the great privilege of playing with a number of the top American orchestras, teaching across the United States, and performing around the world. As a student of Elaine Douvas and John Mack, he received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Juilliard School.
Harrison Linsey is the current oboist with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center and is a versatile musician and collaborator. His musical journey gained steam during his years studying eith Elaine Douvas at The Juilliard School, where his love for the oboe blossomed.
The piano accompanist is Luis Ortiz. Ortiz is a graduate from the Juilliard School in Collaborative Piano and from Eastman School of Music in Piano Performance and English Literature. Now working at Juilliard as a Staff Pianist, happily playing sonatas and duos with all different kinds of instruments, specializing in cello, clarinet, oboe, violin, horn, and others.
