John Jensen, pianist, will perform Charles Ives' Sonata #1, Aaron Copland's Piano Sonata, and Carl Ruggles' Evocations. Two additional works will feature local composers and performers: Rick Yramategui's Theme and Variations with guest violinist, Farkhad Khudyev, and the premiere of "2" for piano 4-hands by Carleton Macy, with Yramategui joining Jensen at the piano.

John Jensen Bio:

John Jensen combnes the virtuosity of a fine classical musician with the imagination of a great jazz pianist. He is an avant-guarde keyboard player who masters the most complex and esoteric styles. Referring to Mr. Jensen's New York debut recital performance of Charles Ives' mammoth "Concord" Sonata, New York Times critic Raymond Ericson said, "A first-rate performance of a great work." Jensen has recorded Martinu's "Tre Ricercari" with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra (London Records), and a Resphigi CD with the Minnesota Orchestra (teldec). Mr. Jensen's solo recordings include the piano music of Aaron Copland, Paul Reale, Carleton Macy, Charles Ives, and a solo jazz CD. Mr. Jensen received his musical training at USC studying piano with Gwendolyn Koldofsky and John Crown, and composition with Ingolf Dahl and Halsey Stevens. As a member of the Mirecourt Trio Jensen has made seventeen recordings.
