Many of the great musicians of our time have presented classes and performances at Hidden Valley. Our Masters' Festival Series continues the tradition this summer with six concerts featuring the talents of our Master Class teachers for English Horn, Cello, Oboe, Bassoon, Flute, Percussion, and Clarinet. These master musicians leave their symphony orchestras behind to bring you an intimate evening of music focused on solo & duo instruments as you've never heard them before.
On Monday, July 25th, 7:30 pm Mark Kosower and pianist Jee-Won Oh present an evening of cello and piano pieces including Beethoven's Seven Variations on "In men who know the feelings of love" from Mozart's The Magic Flute, Schubert's Sonata in A Minor, Ginastera's Pampeana No. 2: Rhapsody for Cello and Piano, and Kodály's Sonata for Unaccompanied Cello, Opus 8.
Mark Kosower is currently Principal Cello of the Cleveland Orchestra, teacher of cello at the Cleveland Institute of Music and is on the faculty at the Kent/Blossom Music Festival. He additionally maintains a very active career as a soloist and appears in the 2016-2017 seasons with Sir Andrew Davis and The Cleveland Orchestra in Severance Hall, Andrey Boreyko and the Indianapolis Symphony, JoAnn Falletta and the Buffalo Philharmonic, Stefan Sanderling and the Toledo Symphony, and Tito Munoz and the Phoenix Symphony. Mr. Kosower has been soloist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, the China National Symphony, the Bamberg Symphony, the Orchestre de Paris, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Brazilian Symphony, the Venezuelan Symphony, and the symphony orchestras of Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minnesota, and Seattle among many others. His previous posts include Solo Cellist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in Germany from 2006-10, and Professor of Cello and Chamber Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from 2005-07. Mark Kosower began his cello studies with his father at the age of 1 ½, and later studied with Janos Starker at Indiana University and Joel Krosnick at the Juilliard School.
Korean-born pianist Jee-Won Oh regularly collaborates with cellist Mark Kosower and has appeared in concert with him worldwide. Recent highlights include a tour of South Korea and Cambodia, appearances in Erlangen, Germany, at the Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach (FL), and at the Kent/Blossom and Mammoth Lakes music festivals.
In the United States Ms. Oh has appeared on the Great Performer's Series at Lincoln Center, on Ravinia's Rising Stars Series, at the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, at Merkin Hall, at Barge Music, at the National Gallery of Art, and at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She has performed in the cities of Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, St. Paul, and Washington DC. Ms. Oh has also appeared in numerous music festivals including the Ernen Musikdorf in Switzerland, the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, the Park City International Music Festival, and the Sitka Music Festival.
